Lucy Turnbull joins Grattan Institute board

by John Daley

Grattan Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of business leader and former Sydney Lord Mayor Lucy Turnbull to its board.

Ms Turnbull, who chairs leading biotechnology company Prima Biomed Limited and other companies in the private and not-for-profit sectors, has a wide range of interests and experience that make her an ideal member of Grattan Institute’s board.

In particular, she has a passion for how Australian cities are planned, managed and governed.

Apart from being Sydney’s first female Lord Mayor – in 2003 and 2004 – she is deputy chair of the Council of Australian Governments’ City Expert Advisory Panel. In 1999 she published Sydney – Biography of a City.

“Lucy is a dynamic and respected figure in Australian society, with interest and involvement in everything from art and architecture to health to business. She will be a superb addition to our board,” Grattan Institute’s CEO, John Daley, said today.

In 2011 Ms Turnbull was awarded an Order of Australia for her contribution to the not-for-profit sector and to local government.

She takes up her position in January 2013.
