The most important characteristic of a city is whether it meets the needs of its residents, both material and psychological. These needs, so important to our lives, are often at the periphery of conversations about the future of Australian cities. Yet while our cities operate well, there is much room for improvement.

The report does not propose a set of solutions or prescriptions. Instead, it argues that cities are complex systems, and lays out ten pressing questions about our urban future. As we manage growth and change in Australian cities, how bold are we prepared to be to get the cities we need?
