Elizabeth (Lizzie) Knight is Program Director, Education and Skills at Grattan Institute.

Lizzie has worked across education, skills, workforce, and labour market policy in senior leadership, research, and advisory roles. Most recently, she was Director, Workforce Futures at Jobs and Skills Australia, where she led work on VET and Early Childhood workforce capability, skills needs, and worked on education-to-employment pathways.

She has also held academic and research appointments across the tertiary sector and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Mitchell Institute. Her research focuses on tertiary education, vocational education and training, workforce development, career pathways, and equity in post-school education. She has published more than 70 scholarly works, including five books, and has been recognised among Australia’s leading higher education researchers.

Lizzie holds a Cert IV Training and Assessment, PhD in Educational Sociology from Monash University, a Master of Arts in Higher and Professional Education from the University of London Institute of Education, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Education Studies, and is a qualified Australian career practitioner.
