We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Lizzie Knight as Director of Grattan Institute’s Education and Skills Program.

Lizzie comes to us from Jobs and Skills Australia, where she was Director, Workforce Futures. Before that she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Mitchell Institute at Victoria University, and worked at Monash University for 10 years, initially as a Professional Career Practitioner and later as a Research Fellow, as well as at Box Hill Institute and Swinburne TAFE. Her research activities include more than 70 publications, including five books examining national skills and education policy for youth and adult learners.

Her Program at Grattan will explore education policy from the perspective of supporting youth and the broader workforce in a changing labour market. Lizzie and her research team will focus initially on the post-compulsory education system, encompassing the final years of secondary schooling, vocational education, and tertiary education.

Grattan Institute CEO, Dr Aruna Sathanapally, said: ‘It is vital that our education system puts young people on a strong footing to enter the fast-changing world of work. Lizzie’s expertise and energy will provide the insight and direction needed to ensure that our tertiary system can deliver the social and economic outcomes we need it to. This is a pressing public policy issue for the coming years.’

Lizzie, who starts at Grattan today, said: ‘I’m excited to have the opportunity to join Grattan. I can’t wait to get to work with Aruna and the Grattan team on policy reforms to enhance the education and skills opportunities for all Australians.’
