Policy priorities for the returned Morrison government
by
John Daley
Scott Morrison did not promise big policy changes in the election campaign. But on several issues inaction will be politically unwise. Economic growth is slowing quickly, the forecast Budget surplus is dicey, demand for tertiary education places will start to jump in 2021, an increasing proportion of migration to Australia is low skill, private health insurance is in a death spiral, out-of-pocket costs for patients keep getting bigger, home ownership is falling and homelessness rising, and energy costs and emissions are too high. In this post-election presentation, Grattan Institute CEO John Daley charts the challenges and suggests some solutions.
